2024-25 Winter Soloist Oscar Hayes-Fegley

Oscar Hayes-Fegley, Trumpet
Oscar started his musical journey in second grade, inspired by his great-grandfather Oscar, who was also a trumpet player. He studied under Andrew Bybee for four years and joined the Bellingham Youth Jazz Band in fifth grade.
During his ten years of experience playing trumpet, Oscar has placed in various state and regional music competitions and performed for audiences as far away as Amsterdam. He is now a substitute and part-time coach for the Bellingham Youth Jazz Band, Drum Major of the Sehome High School Marching Band, and lead trumpet in the Sehome Jazz Band. In the summer, Oscar is a camp counselor at the Community Boating Center, a local nonprofit. In college, Oscar plans to continue to pursue music, as well as a degree pathway to eventually become a teacher.
Oscar attributes his musical progress to many wonderful directors and instructors, including but not limited to Andrew Bybee, Mark Kelly, Duncan Lane, Morgan Schwab, Donny Rose, Lourdes Aguilar, Chase Kobylarz, Frank Kuhl, NSYS Director Grant Donnellan, and his current teacher, Chris Carthum.
